What Is A MOTO Payment?

MOTO (Mail order, telephone order) payments are an alternative method of taking and accepting transactions remotely. When you integrate this payment method into your business, you can accept transactions even when the credit/debit card is not physically present at the time of payment.

The cardholder will have to either provide their details verbally over the phone or through an encrypted web form. As a Smartpay customer, you are responsible for entering these details into the EFTPOS terminal on behalf of your customer making the purchase.

To complete the transaction, the cardholder must provide:

  1. their personal information.
  2. a scheme (Visa or Mastercard) debit or credit card number, name on the card, expiry date and CVV/CVC number.

To keep your business compliant with your Merchant Services Agreement, you must not store customer card details under any circumstances. For more information, please refer to the Card Not Present Guide and Payment Card Industry Guide.
