Like many business owners around the country, you probably have a hundred things to think about before you start operating again. With the anticipation of being able to supply goods and services to your customers once again, it is essential to ensure you can continue taking payments smoothly with your EFTPOS machine.
To help with this, we have compiled some handy steps you can take before using your EFTPOS terminal and start trading again, after an extended period of non-use.
1. Battery
Please ensure the battery in your terminal is fully charged before using it. If you are using a charging cradle, ensure they are placed on and charged up to avoid any battery issues when you start trading, or plug the charger directly into the terminal.
2. Contactless payments
Contactless payments can help to reduce the risk of transmitting germs and provide a greater level of reassurance to your customers when paying. To accommodate continued hygiene measures in your business premises all Smartpay EFTPOS terminals accept contactless transactions.
To reduce physical surface interaction with EFTPOS devices, the payments industry in Australia has introduced a change for contactless payments. The $100 cap for contactless payments has temporarily increased to $200 without the use of a PIN; however, transactions over $200 will still require a PIN. The new limit will be in place until 17 December 2021 and will be extended if necessary based on government advice.
3. Cleaning your terminal
We suggest cleaning your EFTPOS terminal more frequently than you normally would to help prevent the spread of germs even with increased Contactless transactions. Please refer to our post on how to clean your terminal here.

4. Paper rolls
Ensure that you are stocked up with the necessary paper rolls and spare accessories, such as chargers, when you re-open. You can order these online or by calling our Customer Support team on 1800 433 876.
Did you know you can turn off your receipts and only produce one when needed? This not only saves you time and money, but restricts the need to interact with customers directly. To learn how to change your paper roll settings, go here.
